Day 4 - You picked a book from the library.

If I am called in for jury duty (which I already postponed last spring to not interrupt teaching), we will have two on-line classes. I will post what do do and with whom. Stay tuned. I should know by Friday afternoon.

Step 1 Please answer the following questions in full sentences:

1. Why did you select the book you brought to class?
2. How many authors does it have? Some books have none: they have an editor.
3. What is the title?
4. Who printed the book? Re-printed? Distributed in the US?
5. Which city was it printed in, and when? You may find that certain books were printed again and several years are printed when editions came to market. Choose the last year and tell which edition it was. If a book was printed in 1940, 1968, 1982, you pick 1982 and count to three: 3rd edition 1982

Step 2 Providing the same information as asked above, write a coherent paragraph about the book you selected. Pick a quote from the book and incorporate it into your text. Provide full bibliographical information at the end in a "Works cited" portion of your post.

Homework: Read five blog posts from classmates and describe what you found. Hot link the originating pages to your review blog post.

---------------------
II.Continuation of grammar presentations by the last four groups.

---------------------
III.Creative writing assignment as per next post...postponed.
______________
IV. Do not forget this older task:
2. (Sept 24): Describe in a 500 word post the process by which your group produced the presentation on a common grammar topic "How my group organized the presentation on ..." and add the names of participants, of course. Think of your goals and how you approached and achieved the task. Describe resources found, pitfalls, etc.

    Homework for next week, 9-17

Please visit the LEO webpages and review the topics offered. Study three topics from the list below and start to prepare one for blog presentation and class presentation.

Every student must have a blog by now that shows the topic selected for presentation. Peruse all blogs of your classmates and find one or two students who have the same or a similar topic. Form groups of 2-3 students. If four persons have a similar topic, split into two groups. See me and tell me who is working with whom. I will put that on the class blog.

Sit with your new group mates and discuss what you want to present to class.
Check the additional resources below and see, how you can include them.
Google your topic and find additional content.
Create a new (second draft after the first posting for today) blog entry and put together the elements of your group presentation.
I want to start listening to group presentations by 7:00 pm today. Be sure to copy and past the second draft (the group presentation) into each member's blog before the evening is over. We will finish listening to presentations next week.

Homework for the followingweek (Sept 24): Describe in a 500 word post the process by which your group produced the presentation on a common grammar topic "How my group organized the presentation on ..." and add the names of participants, of course. Think of your goals and how you approached and achieved the task. Describe resources found, pitfalls, etc.
    Here are the topics:

    Day two- week 3

Please review (read and write down observations) all stories from classmates. Obviously, those students who did not post anything will not be reviewed. Ask yourself: "What makes a good story?" I would like to hear the answer in class, and I would like to establish a list of quality indicators that suggest to you that a story is "good". In order to find out which three stories are the best in class, use this on-line document. It contains the names of students who had their stories posted at noon today. Give  up to  fifteen points per story according to the five criteria:
Criterion 1: Creative use of the 13 items (5 Points)
    Criterion 2: Interest (4 Points)
    Criterion 3: Organization/Structure (3 Points)
    Criterion 4: Flow (2 Points)
    Criterion 5: Grammar/Spelling (1 Point)
Add up to 15 points each story and record sum

For class discussion: Which parameters did you base your evaluation on? Which are valid parameters to evaluate writing and stories? I proposed five in the evaluation sheet above. Here is a template to copy and paste into your own google documents with the names and parameters.

After the evaluation, give me written feedback on stories here, please.
